Hassan, the headquarters of Hassan district is a pleasant, busy little town in Karnataka. The town named after the presiding deity, goddess 'Hasanamba' was founded in the 11th century by Channa Krishnappa Naik. Located on the National Highway, linking Mangalore and Bangalore, Hassan is the most convenient base and the nearest railhead to explore Belur, Halebid and Sravanabelagola, the tourist centers of great antiquity.
